ASUP tasks FG to intervene on minimum wage owed to members

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP currently on a nationwide strike action are demanding among other things the release of minimum wage owed their members in Federal polytechnic and non implementation of same in several states owned institution.

The call was made known during a press conference in Kaduna by the chairman of the Kaduna state chapter Mohammad Mohammed.

The Union expressed with concern that the main objective of the polytechnics Education is the promotion of technical, vocational education and training technology transfer as well as skills development to enhanced the socio economic advancement of the nation.
ASUP is also demanding the release of promotion arreas in federal polytechnic and the payment of same as well as annual increments.
Speaking in similar vein the National President of National Association of Polytechnic students in Nigeria Sunday Asuku said the students are not happy with the ongoing industrial action.
The Union is also demanding the implemention of 65 years as retirement age for the academic staff in some states owned institutions as well as establishment of a commission to regulate the activities of Nigerian Polytechnics.
