Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political movement, has claimed that Nigeria’s southern region has suitable people to control the country.
Jare Ajayi, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, stated that in 2023, authority must be transferred to the southern half of the country.
The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, had made a remark about the North producing President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor, and Ajayi was reacting to it.
The North, according to NEF spokesperson Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, is not ready to lose control in 2023.
Baba-Ahmed had previously stated that if the North delivers the next president, the sky will not fall, and that those opposed should leave Nigeria if this occurs in 2023.
This was revealed by the NEF spokesman at the Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series in Zaria, Kaduna.
Ajayi reacted by saying that Baba-remark Ahmed’s demonstrated that he is a sectional thinker.
“Such a phrase can only come from someone who doesn’t give a damn about the rest of the country,” he explained. I understand Baba-Ahmed was a retired Federal Permanent Secretary, and I would expect a guy of that quality to be nationalistic in nature and in his statements.
“It’s not unexpected that what’s on his mind is what comes out of his mouth; this plainly demonstrates that this individual thinks in sections.
“Saying that the heavens will not fall implies that he does not wish the country well, which is why he says such things.
“Our position is that, in order for Nigerians to feel a sense of equality, harmony, and belonging, every area of the country should participate in the country’s government. As a result, in 2023, Nigeria’s president will be transferred to the country’s southern region.
“Nigeria should also be reorganized before the election. We are certain of it, and it must take place.
“As a result, the Baba-Ahmeds of the world cannot decide for all Nigerians; that will not happen.
“There are people qualified to rule in every region of the country, which means that if we go by merit, every part of the country may produce a president.”
