Hon Chris Azubogu, a former governorship hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ekwusigo federal constituency, was allegedly attacked by unidentified gunmen.
Azubogu’s convoy was allegedly ambushed in Nnewi, however he was not present in any of the cars at the time.
The caravan was on its way to Nnewi after attending a public function, according to a source.
DAILY POST learnt that Azubogu was being expected in Awka, where he planned to declare his defection to the All Progressives Congress, at the time of the attack (APC).
A police station in Ajalli, Orumba South Local Government Area, was also attacked and burned down by armed persons yesterday. It’s unclear whether the strike resulted in any casualties.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, could not be reached for comment on the event.
Meanwhile, as a means of avoiding attack, legislators in the state have abandoned the usage of branded campaign vehicles.
