Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has warned residents to be aware of individuals who are planning to use extortion and violence as political weapons in the state’s 2023 elections.
Such politicians, he continued, do not wish the people well.
The governor remarked last weekend at the grand finale of the inauguration of the local government steering committees for the ‘Maintain Peace Movement,’ MPM, held in Onna, Akwa Ibom State, that power can only be obtained via divine providence, not through violence or extortion.
The governor, speaking on the importance of the Maintain Peace Movement, stated that calm is essential for growth, stating that no investor would invest in a place plagued by violence and crises, thus the necessity to maintain the existing peace.
“Development is impossible without peace. We want the peace to last. Nobody wishes Akwa Ibom well if they pursue power by violence and blackmail.
“Only one Governorship position is available. You must make a difficult choice. It’s about maintaining peace in our state in order to encourage foreign direct investment, investors, and medical tourism for Akwa Ibom residents, among other things,” he stated.
Meanwhile, during the inauguration of the steering committee, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem, the Chairman of MPN and the national legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, asked the people to be steadfast and pursue peace at all times.
Despite the insecurity plaguing Nigeria as a result of Buhari’s APC-led administration’s misrule, he added that Akwa Ibom State is still creating waves in economic growth and development thanks to the state’s unparalleled tranquility.
