Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary Manchester United manager, has confirmed that he barred Cristiano Ronaldo from joining Manchester City.
Ferguson could not picture the 36-year-old playing for their city rivals, according to him.
The Scot is said to have personally called Ronaldo to convince him to return to Manchester United.
Ferguson has now confirmed to ViaPlay that he also spoke to United’s owners to finalize the agreement.
“Like everyone else, I’m ecstatic; I was anticipating it all day yesterday and when I woke up this morning. I speak for all Manchester United supporters when I say that it is a fantastic day for the club.
“A lot of people helped (in bringing Ronaldo back), and I helped because I knew Cristiano truly wanted to come here, and that was vital. It was a huge success.
“I wouldn’t call it emotional, but it’s thrilling and relieving for me because I couldn’t envision him playing for Man City, and I don’t think anyone else could either.
“That’s why we took steps to ensure he came here, and the club then did a fantastic job of following in his footsteps, and I spoke with the Glazers, and it was all done. He has the experience to handle the situation, and I believe he will have an impact on the young players in particular,” he remarked.
