A fire has broken out inside the Nigerian Ports Authority’s (NPA) headquarters in Lagos’ A wing.
The event occurred on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports.
In a statement issued in Lagos, Mr Olaseni Alakija, General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, confirmed the news.
He said the fire, which he assumed was started by an electrical surge, affected three offices on the 6th level of NPA headquarters’ Broad Street wing.
“Operatives of the NPA Fire Service Department were immediately summoned to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire,” Alakija said.
“The affected floor has subsequently been roped off in accordance with safety standards, and inquiries into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
“One office was harmed by the fire, which resulted in the loss of two desktops, tables, chairs, and other furniture. Smoke and soot infiltrated two more neighbouring offices.”
The management of NPA, according to Alakija, appreciates the quick response and professionalism of the NPA security department’s firefighters and workers.
He stated that no important documents were lost, that normalcy has been restored, and that operations are continuing normally.
