Gov Ortom propose remedies to end insecurity in Southeast

Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State, has proposed remedies to the problem of insecurity in the South East and other parts of Nigeria.

The Governor addressed today in Enugu during a one-day lecture series organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu Chapel, on the topic “Emerging Security Situation in the South East: The Place of Good Governance.”

Governor Ortom said insecurity in the region and across Nigeria can only be solved when leaders put aside their personal feelings and confront the monster, adding that all stakeholders must work together to help security services perform better since security is everyone’s business.

He believes that government at all levels should take aggressive steps to solve the problem of youth unemployment by making concerted efforts in the private sector to create jobs and empower youth.

While urging the Federal Government to uphold the Federal Character Principle in terms of appointments and development projects, the Governor also urged the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan, which was approved by the National Economic Council, to protect farming communities from herder attacks.

He also demanded that the Federal Government publicly condemn the murders committed by armed herdsmen, as well as arrest and prosecute the leaders of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, the Fulani Nationality Movement, and other armed herder groups that have admitted to killing farmers without provocation.

Governor Ortom has called on the Federal Government to outlaw all militant Fulani groups, as it did in the case of the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, given that Fulani militia is the world’s fourth deadliest terrorist organisation, according to the Global Terrorism Index.

Pastor Emma Inegbedion, Zonal Director of the FRCN Enugu Zonal Office, complimented Governor Ortom for all that his administration has accomplished, particularly in terms of creating bridges of unity and goodwill among Nigerians.
