Lamido meets Obasanjo says “the country is bleeding”

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido met behind closed doors in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

On Sunday, Lamido paid a visit to Obasanjo at his Abeokuta residence, the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Pent House.

The two attended an hour-long closed-door discussion, which was likely related to the People’s Democratic Party’s next convention ahead of the 2023 presidential race.

Lamido is rumored to be interested in running for the PDP presidential nomination in 2023.

According to a statement released by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, after the meeting, Lamido said Obasanjo “confirmed his faith in the country despite the horrible condition we are in.”

“Lamido, who said that the country is bleeding, remarked that his meeting with Obasanjo restored his faith in the country,” according to the statement.

“The biggest problem and challenge now in this country is how to be secure, because no one is safe anymore. Imagine capturing three employees of Baba, the country’s former President. Who is safe once more?

“I came to see my father, leader, and everything after a long period, and I found him in excellent health and spirits.

“However, he stated that he is now aging, to which I replied that he is not since we still want his services in our country. And he added, “Sule, I will do anything for Nigeria.” That is really inspirational; it is one of the reasons I like him, and it strengthens my faith in the country—my Nigeria.

“We talked about a variety of topics, including Nigeria, which he adored. We will, without a doubt, rise again, no matter how low we fall. But it’s clearly bleeding now; it’s bleeding.”
