As the naira sank further to N580/$1, the Peoples Democratic Party accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of corruption for retaining Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
This was stated in a statement issued by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Sunday, captioned, “PDP to APC: You Have Admitted to Wrecking the Naira.”
“Our party insists that, based on the words of the APC National Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, the APC purposefully retained a CBN Governor in office who allegedly supervised the ‘sharing and looting’ of cash in order for APC leaders to pillage the CBN,” the statement continued.
“We demand that the APC and the Buhari Presidency come clean about their operations at the CBN that have brought the value of our naira to its knees, and that the APC refrain from blackmailing those who seek transparency and accountability in the country’s fiscal sector.”
Attempts to contact the APC were unsuccessful. The phone number of the party’s National Secretary, John Akpanudoedehe, was shut off when calls were made to it.
As at the time of reporting this report, no answer to a text message made to him had been received.
