Twenty abducted victims have escaped the hazardous Rugu Forest in Nigeria’s northwest after gunmen who kept them captive for nearly five months fled for their life citing an air force fighter plane.
18 females and 2 males were kidnapped five months ago from Katoge village in Katsina State’s Batsari Local Government Area.
Rabiu Mannir, one of the victims, said they were able to flee the hoodlums after a Nigerian Air Force jet caused a scare while flying over the robbers’ camp on Friday night. He claimed that this event led the crooks to flee for their lives, ignoring their prisoners.
Also, one of the female victims, Sahura Haruna, was alleged to have given birth to a baby girl at the kidnappers’ den recently, despite the fact that she was already pregnant when she was kidnapped by the bandits.
“It’s been five days since I went to bed. My baby and I, according to the doctor, are not in good health. Our body system, according to the doctor, is dehydrated,” Sahura explained.
The rescued victims were brought back to Katsina by authorities from neighboring Zamfara State, according to the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Dr Mustapha Inuwa. They were medically examined and handed over to the authorities of Batsari LGA to be reunited with their families.
