Oluwale Abidemi, a serving female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was crushed to death by a tipper in Benin City, Edo State.
On Wednesday, September 22, a deadly accident happened along the bustling Airport Road near the suburban Ogba River bridge.
The tipper, which was allegedly transporting sand, reportedly experienced a brake failure and collided with a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) before colliding with a commercial motorcycle carrying a woman and the serving corps member.
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries, while the Corps member who died on the spot and whose remains have since been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary perished instantly.
DSP Kotongs Bello, a spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, said the accident occurred at 12:30 p.m.
“A truck carrying sand failed to brake at Ogba bridge today about 12:30 p.m. and collided with a Lexus SUV and a motorcycle,” he said.
“The motorbike was transporting one Mrs Maria, who was critically injured and is now being treated at the Central Hospital in Benin, and a youth corps member who was claimed to be Maria’s sister, who died on the spot,” he continued.
