Two councillorship by-elections in the Ashekri and Hausari wards of Yobe State’s Geidam local government area will be held on October 30, 2021, according to the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
At a stakeholders meeting in Damaturu, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr Mamman Mohammed, revealed this.
He noted that on February 27, 2021, the commission held elections in seventeen local governments and one hundred and seventy-eight electoral wards throughout the state.
“A sad report for the death of two honorable councillors, Hassan Bukar Mairami representing Ashekri ward and Yusuf Mustapha representing Hausari ward, both in Geidam local government on Friday, 4th June 2021.
”According to the investigation, the death was caused by a horrifying car accident on the Bayamari-Damaturu route. Amin, may their lovely souls rest in eternal peace. As a result of this act, a vacancy has arisen in the Geidam local government council, which can only be filled by democratically elected individuals.

“The government of Yobe State, led by Mai Mala Buni, asked us to hold a bye-election to fill the void,” he stated.
“It is consequently my hope that all players, particularly political parties, would adhere to the rules of the game and that you will provide your support to the election’s success.” He went on to say.
