Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has encouraged young people to run for office in the 2023 general elections if they want to be in power.
On Monday, Osinbajo revealed this at a two-day retreat for young lawmakers in Lagos.
He cautioned that power is seldom handed over on a silver platter.
The vice-president, who was represented by Babajide Omoworare, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), said the not-too-young-to-run movement would be destroyed if youths did not seek for elected offices.
“As we prepare for the general elections in 2023, we must recognize that increased youth engagement is more than rhetoric.
“Power is never given to you on a silver platter. You can’t win if you don’t bid. In order to vote, we must also register.
“The main point is to ensure that young people participate in the democratic and parliamentary processes,” Osinbajo added.
