Godwin Matthew, a 26-year-old man, was arrested by police in Akure, Ondo state, for allegedly killing his 64-year-old father.
After taking his father, Audu Matthew, to the farm, the suspect allegedly committed the crime.
DSP Funmi Odunlami, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the suspect’s arrest, saying:
“On September 9, 2021, one Mrs. Christiana Audu Matthew filed a case of murder to Ala Divisional Headquarters, stating that her son Godwin Matthew,’m’, 26 years old, left home with his father to the family’s farm, but she later discovered that the young man had macheted his father to death.”
During questioning, the suspect stated that on September 9, 2021, his late father asked him to kill a chicken for his 7-year-old brother, Emmanuel Audu’m’, for his enjoyment; however, all he received was the chicken head, which prompted him to kill his father.”
The culprit would be charged in court and prosecuted, according to the Police Prosecutor.
