On Monday, the Ebonyi State Police Command verified the slaughtering of a little girl whose name has yet to be revealed, as well as two (2) others, by a forty-year-old man named Chibuike Ochie over an unnamed misunderstanding.
On Sunday, the suspect, Ochie, was claimed to have entered the agricultural area where a girl and her brother’s wife, as well as a laborer, were cultivating and butchered them.
The incident occurred at Uburu community, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State, according to the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Aliyu Garba, who spoke through the PPRO, DSP Loveth Odah.
Chibuike, it was rumored, arrived at their farmland, went mad, and began inflicting machete injuries on anybody he came across.
He killed his sister-in-law, younger sister, and hired laborer in the process, according to reports.
According to Odah, investigations are still ongoing to determine what caused the three people to be attacked and killed by their own brother.
She did, however, warn the youths in the vicinity to be cautious and not take the law into their own hands.
“It was stated that by 1640hrs of October 24th, 2021, when the family of Ochie was in the farm, including a hired laborer who was farming for them on that specific day,” Odah said. Chibuike Ochie, one of their brothers, entered the property and began macheting them.
“He was successful in macheting Ogechi Ochie, 32, who was believed to be the wife of the elder brother, and Margaret Ochie, 35, the younger sister and the mentioned laborer. On that property, the three of them were macheted to death, but he escaped.
“As he was fleeing the scene, furious youngsters in the neighbourhood apprehended him and swarmed him.” As I speak with you, he is still dangerously unwell to the point where he needs to be hospitalized.
As I’m talking to you now, he is still critically sick to the extent that he is living on a life support machine.
“Investigation is still on, but it will be properly ongoing when this man survives.
“That is why we keep discouraging the youth from taking laws into their hands especially when a person committed offence like this. If they brought the person to us, he would have told us the reasons he had to do this to his family members and he would have faced the law. But in this case, a lot of money is being spent to revive this person.
“The incident took place at Obegu farm in Uburu. According to the DPO who visited the place, he said the farmland is about 25km away from Uburu town.”
