Following preparations for the Enugu State Congress, leaders and stakeholders of APC held a meeting in Enugu.
The meeting which was presided by the SouthEast representative in the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani sought to harmonise the various positions and interests in order to ensure that the party spoke with one voice at the congress.
In line with this, the Adhoc Zoning Committee headed by Chief Okenwa and Hon. Ugwuegede submitted their report to the members present who adopted the zoning arrangement as suggested by the committee.
Offices zoned did include:
- Governor (East Senatorial Zone)
- Dep. Gov. (Enugu North Sen. Zone)
- HOA Speaker (West Sen. Zone)
- Party Chairman (West Sen. Zone)
- Party Secretary (East Sen. Zone)
- Party Dep. Chair (North Sen. Zone)
- NWC position (North Sen. Zone)
Put briefly, the new zoning arrangement saw Party positions previously Zoned to the East moved to the Enugu West Sen. Zone, while positions held by the Enugu North Sen. Zone and West Sen. Zone were moved to the Enugu East Sen. Zone and Enugu North Sen. Zone respectively.
In addition, a 34-Man Harmonization Committee was set up to help broker peace within the rank and file of the party. With each LGA having two representatives each. The Committee was saddled to reach out to aggrieved members of Enugu APC who may have for one reason or the other felt shortchanged by the processes that would guide the congress.
In addition, it was also agreed that each senatorial zone was to assiduously explore the possibility of arriving at consensus candidates but where such could not be feasible, each position was to be contested through Option A-4 at model of election.
