Boko Haram: Troops neutralize over 7 ISWAP elements in Borno

The Nigerian military is said to have neutralized over seven ISWAP components on Saturday after an attempt to penetrate Maiduguri was successfully thwarted in the Kumshe general area of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital in northeast Nigeria.

According to security officials, the incident might have been disastrous for Maiduguri inhabitants.

On Sunday, a resident of the 777 Housing Community told Metro Times that there had been massive explosions and gunshots behind the estate.

Residents of Pompomari, 777, and 1000 Housing Estates confirmed the heavy blasts and gunshots, which he said began around 10:15 p.m. and lasted for several hours.

Following the explosion and gunshots, residents reported they couldn’t sleep, and families gathered to beg for God’s intervention.

“We couldn’t get any sleep.” My next-door neighbor and his family dashed over to my house. Until the morning, we were all seated. It brought back memories of the past because we haven’t heard anything like it in Maiduguri in a long time.” A tenant of the 777 housing, Saleh Usman, told Metro Times.

According to a security source who shared a video with Newsmen, Maiduguri has been protected by God.

“Safety is a gift from God. Following the prior incident around Kumshe, where our men battled valiantly and defeated terrorists attempting to forcibly enter the town, we were placed on high alert.

“The conflict continues. Over seven of them were killed only yesterday. However, they continue to reorganize and plot attack after attack. We are always aware of their schemes, and we are constantly on the lookout for any effort by these criminals, and God will always defend us all,” he stated.

The military authorities, on the other hand, have remained silent on the incident, with attempts to reach Army Spokesman General Onyema Nwachukwu for comment yielding no results as of the time of filing this story.
