Unknown gunmen attacked the Nasarawa State Local Government Civil Service Commission, stealing one G3 rifle from a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer before breaking into the premises and stealing other items.
The assailants, numbering in the hundreds, stormed the premises on Monday, according to the DAILY POST.
The armed men reportedly overcame security officers stationed at the commission’s office on Makurdi Road in Lafia, the state capital.
ASP Ramhan Nansel, a spokesman for the state’s police command, verified the event when reached by DAILY POST on Wednesday.
The PPRO was unable to provide specifics about the incident, stating that it was only reported to the NSCDC command.
“Their personnel were on duty there at the time of the occurrence, and it was not reported to the police; we only heard/saw it on the news,” he stated.
As of press time, our correspondent’s attempts to contact the NSDC’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Jerry Victor, were unsuccessful.
The news comes just three months after armed robbers broke into the state Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning in Lafia and stole millions of Naira, according to the DAILY POST.
