Ndigbo United Forum (NUF), an igbo socio-political organization, has praised several governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for voting for Northern Nigeria to produce the party’s national chairman.
The PDP Governors Forum, led by Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has voted in favor of the North producing Uche Secondus’ successor, according to DAILY POST.
Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), and Douye Diri (Delta) are the governors that voted in favor of the Northern leadership (Bayelsa).
The gathering decided to send the governors’ proposal to the national convention’s zoning committee, which is set to meet on October 30 and 31 in Abuja.
In response to the latest development, the Ndigbo United Forum (NUF), in a statement signed by its Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Chinedu Mba, and made available to DAILY POST on Saturday, urged the Peoples Democratic Party leadership to ratify the committee’s resolution as soon as possible, as well as to take the necessary steps regarding the zoning of the presidential ticket.
The Igbo ethic group echoed her call for a power shift to the southeast, claiming that it is the only way to send a strong message of fairness.
“NUF is very pleased with the PDP’s decision to zone her national chairmanship to Northern Nigeria; a step that would pave the road for her presidential ticket to come to the South,” the group said.
“The zoning committee’s decision, ably led by Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, Executive Governor of Enugu State, reflects a sincere respect for truth, fairness, justice, equity, and solidarity, as the legendary Late Pontiff postulated.
“This one-of-a-kind gesture has the soothing power to calm any frayed nerves. It is a very clever and opportune choice that transcended partisanship, since it has everything Nigeria needs to save its soul.
“The Ndigbo United Forum salutes this honourable initiative. We are confident that other supporters of justice, truth, and fairness will praise the Committee’s decision as well.”
