A man’s body was discovered in the Ilorin river near Emir’s road in the state capital by the Kwara State Fire Service.
Babawale Zaid Afolabi, a spokesman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Kwara State, said the body was discovered at 7.48 a.m. on Monday in Ilorin.
He stated that the body had been handed over to the authorities.
A suspected thief and two others who chased him into the Asa river near Amilegbe in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, have been declared missing three days after the incident.
On Saturday afternoon, the two men chased down the robber, who then threw the stolen phone into the river before jumping into the same river and swimming.
They were not found after a while, thus the event was reported to the state fire department for rescue.
The development was confirmed by a spokesman for the state fire service.
“We learned that the suspect took the phone from the Igbo traders at Amilegbe area and leapt into the river as we arrived at the bridge,” he said.
“However, after several hours of searching, we have yet to find any trace of them, whether dead or alive,” he continued.
