According to detectives, the mother of a 1-month-old Brooklyn kid who was discovered dead in his family’s apartment earlier this year was detained for reportedly shaking him to death.
Elsa Sanchez, 21, was arrested at 9 p.m. Wednesday in East Flatbush in connection with the death of her infant son, Daquan Vaughan-Sanchez, on March 8 inside the apartment on East 32nd Street near Snyder Avenue.
According to authorities, Sanchez was charged with manslaughter, reckless assault on a kid inflicting brain injury, and acting in a child-abusing manner.
Daquan died of violent head and neck injuries, according to the city medical examiner’s office, which ruled his death a homicide.
Authorities said Daquan’s 25-year-old father discovered him unconscious and unresponsive around 5:30 a.m. that day and called 911.
He was airlifted to SUNY Downstate University Hospital, where he died on March 10.
Following a recent run of child abuse-related deaths across the city, the homicide ruling and arrest were made.
