Bolaji Elesho, 40, and her son, Bidemi, 24, were both convicted to four years in prison by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for burglary and theft of cartons of cigarettes and other supplies.
Magistrate Abiona Adebayo sentenced the mother to pay a fine of N15,000, while her son, Bidemi, was ordered to pay a fine of N100,000.
On September 27, 2021, around 4:30 a.m., the offenders committed the crime between Araromi Community, Owode Ilesa road, and Oja-Oba area in Osogbo.
The two were apprehended by vigilance security and confessed to stealing.
The two pleaded guilty to a four-count complaint against them that included conspiracy, theft, and burglary.
Inspector Rasak Olayiwola, the Police Prosecutor, informed the court that the son broke into the shop of one Nafisat Adeyeye t Oja-Oba and stole cigarettes and other stuff.
He went on to say that Bidemi was detained along with his accomplice, his mother.
“They took four packs of cigarettes worth N16, 000, two packs of Bohem Cigarettes worth N8, 000, two Rezler cartoons for N8, 000, and two cartons of peak milk worth N16, 000.
“Other things stolen include toothpaste, two sachets of yoghurt, and other items worth N151, 000,” says the statement.
The offence committed contravened Sections 516, 413, 390 (9) and 430 of the criminal code Cap 34 vol. 11 laws of Osun, 2002.
The convicts had no legal representatives when their case was called.
