Nnamdi Kanu: Biafra group demands open trial of IPOB leader

Indigenous Biafra Warriors, a pro-Biafra organisation, has urged the Federal Government to ensure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s open trial in court today, Thursday.

According to Metro Times, Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, would be arraigned in court today on an upgraded seven-count treason allegation.

Mr. Ndubuisi Agu, the head of the Indigenous Biafra Warriors, told media late Wednesday night that a private trial of the IPOB leader would send the wrong message.

Kanu remained a freedom warrior, not a criminal, according to Agu, who is a founding member of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra.

“Today is the big day; we’re expecting and hoping that the government will act responsibly. Kanu should be arraigned today in open court, which is the appropriate thing to do.

“This is not the time for anyone to discuss the Biafra fighter’s secret trial. We’ve seen the updated allegations against him, and we all know it’s all about giving a dog a bad reputation so that it can be hanged,” he said.

“He is merely an agitator, and the Federal Government understands that,” Agu recommended the Federal Government to go ahead and free Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally. Unless they wish to intensify the tension in the South-East, this is the only way to defuse it.

At this time, I urge all of our people to be calm until tomorrow; we are confident that everything will go smoothly.

“We tell all of our employees to maintain their composure so that security agents have no excuse to harass anyone.” After today, we’ll talk again.”

The pro-Biafra chieftain reiterated his position that Ndigbo were not behind the mayhem in Imo State.

“What is going on in Imo State is unusual, and I am certain Biafrans are not to blame.” What is happening in Imo State is not happening in Enugu, Anambra, or Abia States, so why is it happening in the two APC states?

“No Igbo man will attack traditional authorities with a gun.” We’re going to sit down and examine what’s going on in Imo State, and I promise you, we’ll get to the bottom of it. There’s no way agitators are behind what’s going on in Imo State.

He proclaimed, “Hope Uzodinma, the Chief Security Officer, should be held accountable for what is happening in Imo State.”
