The famed Prest Club in Lekki has been closed by the Lagos State Government due to noise pollution.
Tunji Bello, the State’s Commissioner for Environment, has issued a warning to pubs, clubs, and lounges in the state to turn off the music.
Apart from closing such establishments, the officer stated that the proprietors will be penalized according to the law.
On Sunday, Bello published a statement following enforcement operations in Lekki in response to residents’ complaints.
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) personnel were dispatched to the Prest Jazz Club on Admiralty Way, he stated.
When they arrived, several large speakers and musical instruments had been built for stage performances, shows, and blaring music, according to Bello.
“In the latest campaign, no one or organization will be considered as a holy cow,” the statement continued, “because research has revealed that noise pollution is one of the causal factors for shorter lifespan.”
