The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ondo State Command, has apprehended three suspected thieves for stealing prepaid meters in the state.
Gospel Osuola, 26, Oladele Ibukun, 42, and Dayo Akinlafe, 40, have been charged with conspiracy, stealing, tampering, and illegal possession of eight prepaid meters.
According to the corps, the prepaid meters were stolen on September 27th and 29th, 2021 at Alagbaka area and Ijapo Estate in Akure, the state capital, according to the suspects who admitted to the crime in their confessions.
The suspects were accused of selling the stolen meters for 60,000 apiece, in violation of the Miscellaneous Offences Act 2004.
The arrests were made feasible, according to the NSCDC State Commandant, Hammed Abodunrin, because to the corps’s ongoing intelligence.
Following the intelligence report on the suspect’s nefarious activities, the Command’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department swung into action and captured the chief suspect, Osuola, who led the agents to the hiding of the other two suspects, according to Abodunrin.
While reiterating that all suspects will be punished and prosecuted in court, the Commandant stated that those who engage in such atrocious behavior will not be spared.
He cautioned Nigerians, however, to be vigilant of hoodlums when purchasing prepaid meters in order to avoid purchasing stolen property.
