Ikuforiji Abdulrahman Olaitan, better known by his stage name Oxlade, a Nigerian singer, explains how he came up with his stage name.

He disclosed in an exclusive interview with CNN Africa that his grandfather gave him his name.

His grandfather named him after his late best buddy, according to the afro-fusion singer. His grandfather lost his best friend the day before he was born, inspiring him to name his grandson ‘Oxlade’ in honor of his late comrade.

Oxlade discussed his musical upbringing, claiming that he was born into a musical family. He remembered singing in the choir at church with his deaconess grandmother.

He claims he had no idea singing might earn him money.
