Following the kill of a popular butcher in the village by downpour, tragedy struck in Ikare-Akoko, the capital of the Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Many people were displaced as a result of the intense precipitation, which lasted around 40 minutes and destroyed many homes.
Ilepa, Okela, and portion of Okoja quarters in the historic town were seriously impacted by the disaster.
The deceased butcher, simply known as ‘Ayepareti,’ was claimed to have died while seeking shelter from the rain at a residence in Okela when the tragic incident occurred.
According to reports, the building collapsed on him, and he was brought to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Ibrahim Kilani, a community leader, the torrential rain began after 7 p.m. and was accompanied by heavy hailstones.
Elder James Oladetohun, Chairman of the Ikare Akoko Elders Forum, sympathized with the victims and urged the government to assist them.
