A gang called as Yan Sakai has reported the deaths of eleven (11) people in Mammande weekly market in Gwadabawa local government area of Sokoto State.
In a statement, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sanusi, confirmed the incident, saying that the Yan Sakai gang, which was proscribed by the state government due to its alleged abuses, stormed the market on Thursday afternoon.
The police have identified and apprehended the culprits of the terrible conduct, according to the statement.
Many more were injured in varying degrees by the attackers’ bullets and machete slashes.
The injured were transferred to the Wamakko Orthopaedic Hospital and the Sokoto State Specialist Hospital.
“The Yan Sakai came from the neighboring Goronyo Local Government Area, but we cannot determine whether they were residents of that area or not,” said Aminu Aya, the chairman of the local government, in response to the attack.
He went on to say that the Fulani are from the surrounding communities and that they come to the market to buy food and other necessities.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Thursday, when Yan Sakai identified and shot 15 Fulani on the spot, according to the chairman.
He claimed that eleven of them died quickly and four others had fractures as a result of bullet wounds.
“As I speak, we have transferred the injured to Wamakko’s Orthopaedic Hospital, and the 11 corpses have been deposited in the mortuary,” he said.
