Corpse of abduct victim in Kwara community recovered in forest

The body of a victim abducted last Saturday in Olla community, Isin Local Government Area, Kwara State, was discovered in a jungle on Wednesday, according to DAILY POST.

Recall that unknown gunmen attacked and kidnapped one Adegboyega Onijala, alleged to be a relation of a monarch in the town, in the Olla village on Saturday around 7 p.m., shooting intermittently.

The kidnappers allegedly wanted a ransom of millions of naira in exchange for the victim’s release.

Although some of the money was purportedly paid, the victim was killed by the kidnappers.

According to DAILY POST, the body was discovered in the forest on Wednesday following a search and rescue operation by local hunters and vigilantes.

The victim lost a lot of blood as a result of the machete wounds in the hands of the kidnappers in the forest, according to a member of the victim’s family who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The state police commissioner, Tuesday Assayomo, had directed the anti-kidnapping and other tactical teams, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilantes, to launch a search and rescue operation for the victim, as well as the possible arrest of the masterminds, according to a spokesman for the Kwara Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, in Ilorin on Sunday.

The victim, who is said to be the brother of Hon. Onijala, a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, was kidnapped on his way home from his farm in the community in an operation that lasted nearly an hour.

He was seriously injured by machete cuts as he resisted the kidnappers’ attack at the time of his kidnapping.

At the time of publication on Wednesday, the police spokesman had not responded to a text message addressed to him.
