Scammer arrested for supplying wrong goods in Kano

Aliyu Hussaini, a known online scammer, was arrested in Kano State after he supplied rags and tattered mosquito nets to a Plateau woman who ordered wrappers from him via Facebook.

According to the authorities, the suspect specializes in defrauding individuals by advertising textile products on WhatsApp and Facebook.

Hussaini, who was seized with a laptop and phone while attempting to swindle another victim, has been prosecuted in a Kano magistrates’ court following a series of complaints from 37 people alleging that the suspect cheated them of N1.1 million.

According to DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Kano State Police Spokesman, a report was received on November 9 from a woman in Yelwa, Shandam, Plateau State, that one Facebook user with the account name “Aliyu Hussaini Salisu” exhibited textile materials for sale on his Facebook page.

“She placed an order for 14 different textile materials for 100,000 naira and paid for them through Kano’s Unguwa Uku Motor Park. Instead of sending the goods, he delivered her rags and damaged mosquito nets, according to the statement.

Following receipt of the complaint, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, directed a team of detectives led by DSP Mutari Jibrin Dawanau to arrest the suspect.

During interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he specialized in utilizing WhatsApp and Facebook to market textile products, collect money from people, and then either restrict their social media accounts and phone numbers or send rags to them, according to the statement.

He also admitted to using the same strategy to scam roughly 37 people from various regions of the country, particularly women who are passionate about designer materials.
