Anthony Joshua, a Nigerian-born British boxer, has sent a message to his supporters ahead of his fight against Jermaine Franklin this weekend.
Joshua was speaking in an interview at the fight’s red carpet launch party, where he confirmed that if he loses, he will hang up his fighting gloves. He stated that people are already requesting his retirement and that if he loses to Franklin, he will grant their wish.
A victory for the former two-time champion could set him up against some of the game’s biggest names.
I will. If I lose, I’ll retire; I’m not here to fight people. If people want me to retire, I will.
I’m going to retire. I’m not going to fight if no one wants me to. It isn’t even about money. It’s all about your inner competitor. That’s all that matters. I understand that it comes with the territory and the business.
I know what I’m going to do when I retire. F**k everyone, I’m going to think. I’m finished. You all put so much pressure on me that when I’m done, the chains will be gone. I’m going to laugh and enjoy life.
