An Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a teacher named Peter Jacob to life in prison for defiling a dyslexic 9-year-old student.
According to Justice Abiola Soladoye, the prosecution had successfully proven the defendant’s accusation of defilement.
She claimed that the prosecution witnesses’ testimony was convincing, credible, and cogent.
The judge concluded that the defendant’s testimony and that of the three defense witnesses, who were employees of the school where the defendant worked, were biased.
“The defendant was seen to be unrepentant and unremorseful,” she said.
“When the prosecution witness 1 (survivor) gave her testimony, she correctly identified the defendant as Her testimony was properly supported by the other three witnesses, who also provided testimony.
“The prosecution has successfully proven the elements of the defendant’s offense.
“The defendant acts in a way that is unworthy of a teacher and is Godless, ruthlessly wicked, and lustful.
I deem him responsible for the charge, and I hereby sentence him to life in prison.
According to Soladoye, the convict’s name ought to be added to the Lagos State-maintained list of sexual offenses.
While the defense called four witnesses, the prosecution team—Mr. Olusola Soneye, Mrs. Olufunke Adegoke, and Ms. Abimbola Abolade—presented four witnesses and eight exhibits during the proceedings.
The prosecution informed the court that the defendant committed the offense at Thescol College, CMD Road, Magodo, sometime in 2019.
