Mrs. Abigail Eguta, 24, a pregnant woman accused of brutalizing her seven-year-old nephew for eating fish and not being able to recite the English alphabet, was apprehended in Anambra State.
the victim, identified as Sunday, was taken to the office of the state commissioner for women’s and social welfare, Ify Obinabo, where the woman was later apprehended.
According to reports, Sunday is the biological son of Mrs. Eguta’s sister, who she brought to live with her just over a year ago.
The boy had been absent from school for a very long time. His body is covered in scars from previous wounds that his guardian is said to have inflicted on him.
Madame Eguta she beat the boy, she said, because he ate the fish she bought for Sunday dinner. She also admitted to beating him on Monday because he couldn’t correctly recite the English alphabet and said that was the main reason she hurt him.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to beat him in the eyes, or blind him, but I did. Please accept my apology; it was the devil’s doing, she said.
