The members of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos have detained two women.
For attempting to sell a two-month-old infant, they were detained.
This was stated in a statement published on the force’s Twitter account on Saturday and signed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s police public relations officer.
The following was stated in the statement: “On Friday, May 26, 2023, operations of the Rapid Response Squad successfully thwarted two women’s attempt to sell a two-month-old baby.
“The deal was discovered in Oshodi when a man named Oge Okolie, 25, who served as the middleman between the baby’s mother and the potential buyer, was suspected of kidnapping the child.
“Passengers on a public bus observed Okolie’s baby crying nonstop and inquired as to why she was unable to breastfeed the child if it was her biological child.
“The suspect was about to be lynched when RRS agents sprang into action to save both her and the infant.
“Initial investigations resulted in the 26-year-old Maria Ahmadu ‘f’, the baby’s mother, being taken into custody. Since then, the suspects and baby have been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command for additional investigation and prosecution by CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, commander of the Rapid Response Squad.
