Two suspects have been detained by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly stealing the oracle from the Irese community in the state’s Ifedore Local Government and killing Ajayi Ajisegiri, 90, by strangulation.
Before he passed away, the nonagenarian served as the community of Irese’s chief priest, guardian of the oracle, and leader of the hunters.
According to reports, the two suspects, Dada Ologundudu, 71, and John Samson, 27, planned to steal the oracle and broke into the Chief priest’s house.
Ologundudu, a commercial motorcyclist better known by his stage name Kayefi, was one of the suspects accused of stealing the oracle from the custodian’s home in Oke Mission.

Ologundudu was approached by the Chief Priest, who warned him to return the oracle and threatened to let the community leaders know it was missing if he didn’t.
Ajisegiri, who threatened to report the suspect to the entire community for stealing the community’s spiritual property known as “Osho Osi Ode,” which was kept in his custody, was found dead in his room, according to a source who spoke to Vanguard.
Mrs. Beatrice Ademeti, the landlady of the suspect, also acknowledged that the deceased had visited her home the day before the incident to warn the suspect to bring back the local oracle.
Ademeti stated that the suspect had been close to the deceased and had claimed to be a herbalist.

The woman continued, “The motorcyclist cannot claim he is not to blame for the death of Ajisegiri because on the night of the incident, I overheard the deceased shouting at the suspect, saying he gave him a day to return the community’s property he took in his room or else he would report the case to the entire town the following day.
“The suspect later returned at night and gave Baba three sachets of alcohol, putting the dead man to sleep. I noticed the deceased had not opened his door the following morning around 8:00 am, which was unusual for him.
“I made calls to other nearby neighbors and informed them that the deceased had not opened
they had been attempting to force open his door since the morning. We were shocked to discover his lifeless body on the floor of his room, complete with scratches and a neck covered in blood.
After the oracle custodian passed away, the suspect allegedly tried to flee the town, but he was caught by the locals, who then turned him over to the palace.
The suspect allegedly denied killing the victim and stealing the oracle at first, but after being threatened by the community leaders, he changed his story.
The oracle was found in an incomplete building with the aid of the police detectives after Ologundudu revealed its location to the local leaders. Then, the oracle returned to the local shrine.
The case was given to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Akure, for further investigation while the suspect was handed over to the police detectives at Ijare Police Station.
The two suspects have been detained in connection with the deceased’s murder and the theft of the oracle, according to Funmi Odunlami, the police spokeswoman, who confirmed the incident.
