Alexis MacAllister of Brighton is ready to join Liverpool for £55 million after the Seagulls granted clearance for the midfielder to undertake a medical.
Last season, the Argentina playmaker helped Brighton finish sixth in the Premier League and qualify for Europe for the first time.
In addition, the 24-year-old assisted his team in winning the World Cup in December.
Liverpool needs to strengthen their midfield after losing James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
Mac Allister was instrumental in the Seagulls achieving European football for the first time in their 122-year history.
He appeared in 40 games and scored 12 goals, usually as a number 10 but often in deeper midfield positions.
