In the event that Nigeria considers military action to remove coupists in the country, prominent Biafra agitator and separatist Simon Ekpa has promised the backing of the Niger Republic of Biafra.
He also supported the armed groups in charge in Mali, Burkina Faso, and the Niger Republic.
If the Nigerian military decides to intervene, as is being debated by West African governments, he claimed Biafra will back the juntas.
On Monday, Ekpa, a lawyer and the chairman of the exiled government of the Biafra Republic, made the announcement in a video posted to his verified Twitter account.
As a result of the recent military coup in the Niger Republic, tensions in the West African regional bloc have risen, prompting his response.
Remember that last week, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu asked the Senate for permission to put into action decisions made by ECOWAS to help restore peace and stability in Niger.
If the junta didn’t back down within seven days, the resolution called for military action against the country. The deadline of seven days, however, had already passed by Sunday.
Ekpa responded to the ECOWAS threat by declaring Biafra’s support for the juntas in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
First, I’d want to offer my best wishes to Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger Republic’s respective leaders.
I hope they can see that the current of liberation sweeping across Africa, and West Africa in particular, must carry on. We need to make it clear to them that Biafra is fully behind them.
We’re fighting for our people’s right to self-determination in all areas, including the economy. Biafra will support Nigeria in a military invasion on the Niger Republic.
Over 70 million Biafrans support the efforts of all countries to end contemporary colonialism, he declared.
