In order to improve the welfare of the elderly in his Nkwelle-Ezunaka community, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, founder and Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, has placed 300 elderly people in the community on a lifetime monthly salary.
According to Rev. Fr. Obimma, also known as Fr. Ebube Muonso by his peers, the purpose of this initiative is to enable the elderly in the area to take adequate care of themselves during their lifespan.
Elder Chris Eluemuno, a former Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and members of the Nze na Ozo and Ogbuefi societies in the area were among those who benefited.
The distribution of an initial payment of N5,000 per month to beneficiaries aged 75 and above took place on Wednesday at Afunwa Shopping Mall/Events Centre in Nkwelle-Ezunaka.
According to Fr. Obimma, who has pledged to continue making payments until his death, “the Bible tells us to support the needy and in John 10:10, Christ said that He came that you may have life and have it in abundance and I am participating in the Christ Ministry because Christ himself preached the good news and gave food to the poor people.”
“It is always a good idea to look after the elderly.” I, too, have a separate package for their healthcare bills, albeit I keep it a secret. I’ll set up an account for them. I have a thing for the elderly. I will keep paying their wages till I die. I’ll write it as I wish.
“I will open an investment that will generate funds for the apostolate to the elderly and future generations.” “I am grateful to my parents for sending me to school; education is an enabler,” he added.
“It is a remarkable undertaking for which I thank the cleric; it demonstrates that our Nkwelle-Ezunaka community has produced a son.” As I am now 75 years old, I am one of the beneficiaries. “It’s a commendable endeavor,” he said.
Earlier, the President General of Nkwelle-Ezunaka Union, NEU, Chief Willie Okafor, and the chair-lady of the community’s IIyom society, Mrs. Iyom Irene, expressed gratitude for the Rev. Fr Ebube Muonso’s good gift and begged God to bless BL with long life.
In his remarks, Hon. Ubaka Onwuanyi, the manager of the seniors’ salary plan, praised the Priest for coming to the aid of the aged and asked to God to continue to guide and protect him.
The leader of Ogbuefi society, (grand patron) Ogbuefi Willy Ayadike, Chief Christopher Igwenagu, and others prayed for the cleric and praised him for the nice gesture.
