Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, said he was lucky not to be penalized in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday.
The Red Devils won by a 1-0 score thanks to a second-half goal from Raphael Varane.
But Erik ten Hag’s team at Old Trafford rode their luck in the dying minutes.
Even though Onana, making his first appearance for United, carelessly collided with Wolves substitute Sasa Kalajdzic in added time, he was not penalized.
Fans and commentators were astonished when referee Simon Hooper and VAR both decided against awarding a penalty kick.
Onana made it sound like he wouldn’t have minded if a penalty had been given after their collision, according to his postgame comments.
What he said was:
There was contact between two huge males, and I made the decision and am accountable for everything that happened.
