Chuba Akpom, a striker for Middlesbrough of the Championship League, has been bought by Dutch powerhouse Ajax for a reported 14.3 million euros (£12.2 million).
The 27-year-old has yet to make an appearance this season, but he led the second division in scoring with 29 goals for Boro last year.
The former Arsenal forward scored 106 goals in 309 professional games, which was his career high.
I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone associated with Boro, as Akpom put it.
Memories from last season will live with me always, and for that I am grateful. Everyone knows how highly I like [Middlesbrough manager] Michael Carrick, and I have no doubt that the club will soon achieve its goals.
Now I have a new opportunity with one of the world’s biggest clubs, and I can’t wait to get started with Ajax.”
