Chelsea were taken aback when Michael Olise re-signed with Crystal Palace despite the club having activated his £35 million release clause.
Although the 21-year-old was largely expected to sign personal terms with Chelsea and move to west London in the coming days, he instead re-signed with Palace on Thursday for a new four-year contract.
Despite Chelsea’s best efforts to sign him before the September 1 transfer deadline, the Eagles were able to keep their star winger.
Palace chairman Steve Parish made the announcement on Instagram mere minutes after Olise signed the new deal.
Within his message he wrote:
I am overjoyed to share the news that Michael Olise has signed a new four-year contract with Crystal Palace football club this afternoon.
